HC Deb 21 March 1973 vol 853 c132W
Mr. Kinnock

asked the Secretary of State for Education and Science if she will introduce legislation to provide that local education authorities should provide a youth employment service for all young people up to the age of 18 years.

Mr. Dudley Smith

I have been asked to reply.

The provisions of the Employment and Training Bill require local education authorities to provide such a service for all young people in and leaving education, and enable them to do so for others, up to and beyond the age of 18. A mandatory requirement in respect of young people who have entered employment is not considered necessary.
