HC Deb 19 March 1973 vol 853 cc6-7W
Mr. Rose

asked the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry how many complaints have been received of unjustified price increases or price increases caused by the fall in value of the purchasing power of the £ sterling abroad in respect of imported food and other goods; and what action he is taking to limit such price increases.

Sir G. Howe

431 of 5,900 complaints so far investigated by my Department have produced evidence of unjustified price increases. In all cases the firms concerned have been approached and have put down their prices.

It is not possible to identify complaints specifically directed to the effects of floating the pound. The whole of the Government's prices policy is directed to limiting price increases.
