§ 15. Mr. Atkinsonasked the Secretary of State for Education and Science what reply she has given to the representatives of the National Union of Teachers in respect of its application for an increased London allowance in addition to any negotiated salary agreement.
§ Mrs. ThatcherI referred to the reply which my right hon. Friend the Prime Minister sent on 1st March to the National Union of Teachers, saying that any increase in the London allowance must be subject to the stage 2 pay limits and that teachers stood to benefit from the success of the present policies for controlling inflation, of which the limitation of pay increases was an essential element.
