§ Mr. Roy Hughesasked the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry what investigation he proposes following the fire on the ore carrier "Edenmore" berthed at Newport, Monmouthshire, on Tuesday 6th March which involved loss of life; and if he will make a statement.
§ Mr. OnslowI understand that there was a serious fire in the accommodation spaces of the "Edenmore", causing the death of two members of her crew. My Department has already ordered a preliminary inquiry into this casualty and this is now taking place. Any further action will be decided in the light of the findings of the inquiry.
