§ Mr. Cordleasked the Secretary of State for the Home Department, in view of the shortage of manpower to which the Metropolitan Police Commissioner referred in his report for the year 1972, Command Paper No. 5331, what plans he has for boosting recruitment or reducing the high rate of premature retirement.
§ Mr. CarlisleThe commissioner has launched a new recruitment publicity campaign; and the central publicity cam-350W paign, from which the Metropolitan Police benefits substantially, will continue at its present high level. Liaison with schools and other educational institutions will be further developed, with other appropriate activities. The commissioner is also carrying out a detailed examination of the causes of wastage.
