Mr. John Fraser

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department how many men and boys, and how many women and girls were registered drug addicts during each of the latest three years for which records are available.

I regret that the information is not readily available in the form asked for by the hon. Member. The numbers of persons in the United Kingdom known to the Home Office to be receiving narcotic drugs at the end of each of the last three years for which records are available are as follows:

1969: 1,466 (of whom 224 were under 20, 1,067 were males and 399 were females).
