HC Deb 22 June 1973 vol 858 c221W
Mr. Kilfedder

asked the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland whether the statement made by a representative of the Ministry of Home Affairs at a public meeting in Newtownards on 13th February 1973 that the proposed remand home at Kiltonga House would not be required for more than four years was made with his authority.

Mr. David Howell

Yes. Kiltonga House will be required for use as a specialised remand home and training school until buildings designed for the purpose are ready. These buildings, which are now being planned, will be on a site elsewhere.

The period for which Kiltonga House will be used will depend on the time it takes to complete the new building. Provided there are no unforeseen difficulties this should not exceed four years.
