§ Mr. Leadbitterasked the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry what new job opportunities will be available in the steel industry by 1975 in Hartlepool and Teesside; what is the expected total work force; and how this compares with the present figures.
§ Mr. Peter EmeryI am advised by the British Steel Corporation that about 350 new job opportunities are expected to arise on Teesside by 1975. At March 1975 the total BSC workforce in Hartlepool and Teesside (excluding those employed by Redpath Dorman Long Ltd. and BSC (Chemicals) Ltd.) is expected to remain close to the present figure of 26,000. However some 2,600 job losses will occur during the latter part of 1975 as a result of the second stage of the closure of iron and steel making at Hartlepool.
