§ Mr. Juddasked the Secretary of State for Social Services whether he will publish in the OFFICIAL REPORT the latest available statistics for the total number of children in care in each of the county boroughs and cities of England and Wales, the number of children in care in each of these same areas because of inadequate housing for the families to which they belong and the total population size of each of these authorities.

§ Mr. AlisonNo statistics are available showing the number of children in care because of inadequate housing for the families to which they belong. Local authorities do, however, submit information each year about the numbers of children received into care where the family is homeless because of eviction or other causes, or where there are unsatisfactory home conditions, and these figures for England are included in the table below. My right hon. and learned Friend the Secretary of State for Wales will write to the hon. Member about the figures for Wales.
