§ 40. Mr. James Hamiltonasked the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry what, on a national basis, is the extent to which the British Steel Corporation is failing to meet orders on time.
§ Mr. Tom BoardmanNo simple measure of the shortfall is possible. The corporation infoms me that a substantial number of orders have been delayed by interruptions to supply, stemming in part from two industrial disputes which are now resolved. The corporation is doing all it can to remedy the shortfalls in delivery. And in the first five months of this year it exceeded by 13.2 per cent. its production of crude steel over the comparable period last year.
