HC Deb 14 June 1973 vol 857 cc363-4W
Q19. Mr. Gwynoro Jones

asked the Prime Minister if he will make a statement following his official visit to Wales.

The Prime Minister

In the course of my visit to Wales on 31st May and 1st June I undertook a number of engagements in Cardiff, Swansea and Pembrokeshire, and met many of those prominent in different walks of life in South Wales. In particular I had a full discussion with the Welsh Council about the Welsh economy, met the leaders of the task forces concerned with the consequences of the rundown of the steel industry at Ebbw Vale, Shotton and Cardiff, and performed the opening ceremony at the new Pembroke power station.

The impression which I have from my visit, and from my talks with local people, is that economic development in Wales is moving steadily ahead, and that Wales is sharing fully in the increased growth and prosperity of the country as a whole.
