HC Deb 12 June 1973 vol 857 cc305-6W
Mr. Bishop

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer what discussions he has had with representatives of the mineworkers and others regarding the removal of VAT from concessionary coal deliveries, especially to retired mineworkers and widows; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Higgins

I received a deputation on this subject on 22nd May. The delivery of coal, if charged for separately from the coal itself, is a service chargeable with VAT at the standard rate.

Mr. Faulds

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer on what date the Financial Secretary replied to the Chairman of the Standing Commission on Museums and Galleries regarding value added tax on purchases by museums and galleries; and whether he will publish the contents of his letter.

Mr. Higgins

I wrote to the Chairman of the Standing Commission on 24th May. It is not usual to publish such correspondence.
