HC Deb 12 June 1973 vol 857 cc284-5W
Mr. Bishop

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services, in view of the public concern regarding the future of Newark General Hospital, if he will take action to ensure that the services are retained and developed; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Alison

No proposals for a change of use of Newark General Hospital are currently under consideration.

I understand that in its long-term plans the regional hospital board envisages the continuance of a pattern of service similar to that at present operating at Newark. These plans are, however, at a formative stage, will need to be considered by the new health authorities and will be subject to the normal processes of consultation before final decisions are reached.
