HL Deb 11 June 1973 vol 343 cc523-4WA
VISCOUNT RIDLEY

asked Her Majesty's Government:

Whether, in the reduction of local authority expenditure announced on May 21, special regard will be had to the needs of the development areas in the amount of locally-determined finance available.

THE PARLIAMENTARY UNDERSECRETARY OF STATE, DEPARTMENT OF THE ENVIRONMENT (BARONESS YOUNG)

The reductions in public expenditure will affect the size of the total pool for locally determined expenditure in 1974–75. Allocations from the pool are made to local authorities on the basis of a formula agreed with the local authority associations. Revision of the formula for 1974–75 is now being considered with the associations.

House adjourned at eleven o'clock.
