§ Miss Holtasked the Secretary of State for Employment (1) whether he proposes to introduce Government training centres exclusively for women;
(2) how many women have been trained at Government training centres in the past 12 months.
§ Mr. Chichester-ClarkMy right hon. Friend has no plans to introduce Government training centres exclusively for women. Courses under the Training Opportunities Scheme are open equally to men and women. Those at Government training centres are mainly in craft skills usually carried out by men, and most women seek training of the kind normally provided under the scheme at colleges and other establishments. Over one in five of all trainees under the Training Opportunities Scheme are now women and it is expected that the proportion will go on increasing.
Fifty-two women completed training at Government training centres in the 12-months' period ending June 1973.
