Mr. Norman Lamont

asked the Lord President of the Council (1) what proposals he has for an extension of the Select Committee system;

(2) what proposals he has for changing the procedures of the House of Commons.

Mr. Prior

I have no specific proposals to put forward at the present time either with regard to the scope of the Select Committee system or the procedures of the House generally, but I shall continue to keep these matters under review.

Mr. Norman Lamont

asked the Lord President of the Council whether he will move to appoint a Select Committee on Monetary Policy and Economic Management.

Mr. Prior

No. There are regular opportunities for the House to discuss these matters and I do not think the establishment of a Select Committee would be appropriate.
