Rev. Ian Paisley

asked the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland what are his plans for the improvement of the harbour at Church Bay, Rathlin Island.

The harbour authority responsible for any improvement of the harbour at Church Bay, Rathlin Island, is Antrim County Council; after 1st October 1973 it will be Moyle District Council. The Government have agreed in principle to make grants for suitable improvements which the council may decide to carry out.

Mr. David Howell

I am informed that the Antrim County Council, the responsible road authority, has spent approximately £1,000 a year during the past five years on the public roads of Rathlin Island.

Rev. Ian Paisley

asked the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland how long it is since the last house was built on Rathlin Island by the public authority.

Mr. Peter Mills

The last houses built on Rathlin Island by a public authority were completed in 1926.

Rev. Ian Paisley

asked the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland what plans he has for road improvements on Rathlin Island.

Mr. Peter Mills

Following my recent visit to the island, we are considering what further action might be taken in addition to the current plans.
