Mr. Pounder

asked the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland what sum will be paid to Lord Grey of Naunton, the last Governor of Northern Ireland, by way of compensation.

Mr. Whitelaw

In accordance with the provisions of Section 32 of the Northern Ireland Constitution Act 1973, I have decided that Lord Grey of Naunton should be paid the sum of £10,000, after tax, as compensation for loss of office and in recognition of his outstanding services to Northern Ireland.
