asked the Secretary of State for the Environment how many new dwellings were completed by public authorities in Yorkshire and Humberside in 1972; and what were the comparative figures, respectively, for the five years previously.

The figures for 1968 to 1972 are shown in Table 17 of Housing and Construction Statistics No. 4 and for 1967 in the same table of Housing and Construction Statistics No. 3. Copies of these publications are available in the Library.

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment what is his estimate of the total number of houses which need to be replaced in the Yorkshire and Humberside Region and the number cleared during 1972.

Regional estimates are not available, but the house condition surveys of 1967 and 1971 show that about 450,000 of the 1.8 million unfit dwellings which were to be found in England and Wales in 1967 had been demolished or taken out of housing use by 1971, while about another 550,000 had been made fit.

Regional figures of slum clearance in 1972 appear in Table 34 of Housing and Construction Statistics No. 4, which is available in the Library.

Numbers of dwellings completed in the second quarter of 1967 appear in Table 3 of Housing Statistics No. 9 and numbers under construction at the end of that quarter in Table 5 of Local Housing Statistics No. 3.
