§ 26. Mr. Ellisasked the Secretary of State for Education and Science what proposals she has for the central computerised recording of personal details of students who enrol for courses at colleges of further education.
§ Mr. St. John-StevasAs announced to local education authorities and colleges in England and Wales in November 1972 it is proposed to improve the present system of collecting statistics of students in polytechnics and other major further education establishments by a system based upon the submission of records of individual students. The new system, called the Further Education Statistical Record, is to be introduced in stages starting with a first group of colleges during the coming academic year. Information will cover students enrolled on 1st November and will be submitted in the form of magnetic tape, punched cards or punched paper tape. It will be analysed, for statistical purposes only, on the Department's computer at Darlington.
