HC Deb 24 July 1973 vol 860 c455W
Mr. Geoffrey Finsberg

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment if he will now make a statement on the future electoral arrangements for Greater London.

Mr. Graham Page

The Government have concluded that the normal term of office for Greater London and London borough councillors should be four years. The next election of Greater London councillors will thus be held in 1977.

The Government do not propose any change in the date of the next election of councillors to the London borough councils, which under the Local Government Act 1972 will be held on 2nd May 1974.
