HC Deb 24 July 1973 vol 860 cc450-1W
Mr. Tope

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment when he will announce his decision on the amount of allowances and expenses to be paid to district and county councillors and, in particular, council committee chairmen.

Mr. Graham Page

As I stated in reply to questions by the hon. Members for Newport (Mr. Roy Hughes) and Birmingham, Ladywood (Mrs. Doris Fisher) on 16th May, my right hon. and learned Friend will announce the maximum daily rate of attendance allowance as soon as he is able to do so. Chairmen of committees will not be entitled to a special rate of allowance as such but the sums they receive will naturally depend on the amount of approved duty they perform. Chairmen and other members of local authorities can also claim travelling and subsistence allowances at the rates currently in force.—[Vol. 856, c. 1483.]
