HC Deb 24 July 1973 vol 860 c527W
Mr. Harold Walker

asked the Secretary of State for Education and Science if she will establish specialised facilities in orkshire for the education of autistic children.

Mrs. Thatcher

Responsibility for educational provision for autistic as for other children rests with the local education authorities. No proposals for special schools or units for autistic children have reached me from Yorkshire authorities, but in Circular 6/71 on the education of these children I said that opinion was divided about the merits of forming groups exclusively for them. The needs of individual autistic children may be met in a variety of ways.
