(2) what studies have been carried out into the feasibility of a central Scottish airport since the Board of Trade survey in 1969.
§ Mr. OnslowNone: the outcome of the assessment made in 1969 was conclusive. I will be writing to the hon. Member in due course to explain the reasons in detail.
§ Mr. David Steelasked the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry if he will now take the initiative in co-ordinating a national airports policy in Scotland.
§ Mr. OnslowThe Government's policy is to ensure, so far as is practicable, that adequate aerodromes exist to meet Scotland's needs for air transport. My right hon. Friend the Secretary of State for Scotland and I are keeping in close touch with the Civil Aviation Authority and the British Airports Authority and other interested parties with the object of bringing this about.
