HC Deb 19 July 1973 vol 860 c224W
Mr. Lambie

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland if he will call for a report from the Chief Constable of the Ayrshire Constabulary on the restriction of access to public highways and rights of way during the Open Golf Championship at Troon, and the extent to which use was made of private security services in restricting such access.

Mr. Gordon Campbell

I understand that the Chief Constable of Ayrshire took steps to reduce traffic congestion in the streets near the Troon Golf Course during the Open Golf Championship. The use of a security firm by the organisers of the championship on this occasion is not a matter for me nor, unless a breach of the law is alleged, for the chief constable. Any evidence of such a breach should be sent to the chief constable.
