Mr. William Price

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services what progress has been made by the Birmingham Regional Hospital Board in providing new beds at St. Cross Hospital, Rugby.

Mr. Alison

Work already completed provided a theatre block with X-ray facilities; work in progress will provide a mental health day centre by the end of this year. The planning of the later stages providing additional acute geriatric and maternity beds is proceeding.

Mr. William Price

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services if he will pay a visit to St. Cross Hospital, Rugby.

The hon. Member will recall that I visited St. Cross Hospital on 2nd June 1971. I shall be pleased to visit the hospital when my commitments permit.
