asked the Prime Minister what is the Government's policy regarding the appointment of Conservative Party political representatives to the Civil Service or to work in association with the Civil Service; and to what extent the Government have taken account of the United States' or any other system.

The Prime Minister

Like previous administrations, this Government employ people from outside the public service, including some with a party political background, who have a special contribution to make. We are aware of systems used in other countries; but like the last Government we continue to pursue our own.
