42. Mr. McCartney

asked the Secretary of State for Employment, during the period of the last 12 months, how many of the boys and girls placed in employment from the area covered by the Old Kilpatrick and New Kilpatrick Youth Employment Committee are receiving or have received training for skilled jobs.

665 young people, 362 boys and 303 girls, entered first employment during the period July 1972—June 1973. Of these, 208–168 boys and 40 girls—took up apprenticeships or employment leading to professional qualifications; 130–34 boys and 96 girls—entered clerical employment, some of which provides planned training. In addition, 35 young people were awarded places under the special industrial training boards awards schemes.
