HC Deb 18 July 1973 vol 860 c129W
Mr. Laurance Reed

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs what action he will take to implement the resolution passed by the First United Nations Law of the Sea Conference regarding nuclear tests on the high seas.

Mr. Amery

None. The resolution on nuclear tests on the high seas adopted by the First United Nations Law of the Sea Conference on 27th April 1958 did not call for any action by Her Majesty's Government. It referred the question of nuclear tests for appropriate action to the General Assembly of the United Nations.

Mr. Laurance Reed

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs if he will make a protest to the French Government about the effect on British interests of France's breach of Article 25 of the Geneva Convention on the High Seas relating to the prevention of pollution of the seas or air space above resulting from activities with radioactive materials.

Mr. Amery

No. Her Majesty's Government see no reason for such action.
