asked the Secretary of State for the Environment how many private and public dwellings were built in 1967 and 1973; how many starts in each case were made in the first quarter of those years; and if he will make a statement.

Completions reported this year up to 31st May number 78,600 private and 43,800 public dwellings. The corresponding figures in 1967 were 73,500 and 79,000. In the first quarters, private and public starts were 59,700 and 47,500 in 1967 and 55,400 and 26,500 in 1973.
