§ Mr. Ian GilmourThe rates of local overseas allowance payable to other ranks vary according to a number of factors such as rank and marital status. A comprehensive statement of the rates will be long and detailed, and I shall write to my hon. Friend in a few days' time. In the meantime these are the rates payable to an Army or RAF corporal who is married with one child and is accompanied at his station by his family:
Germany: British Forces area, £1–82 a day; isolated units, £2–85 a day; Berlin, £1–21 a day. Hong Kong: £3–19 a day.
Separation allowance is paid at the rate of 40p a day. The minimum period of separation regarded as normal is 30 days in a year.
