HC Deb 09 July 1973 vol 859 c263W
Mr. Thomas Cox

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment if he will give an assurance that he will not withdraw the transitional powers which the Greater London Council is able to exercise in the interest of London as a whole under Section 21 (5) of the London Government Act 1963.

Mr. Channon

In the present serious London housing situation the Greater London Council clearly has a valuable part to play. The council's transitional housing powers are important provisions, therefore, and my right hon. and learned Friend has certainly no present intention of terminating them.
