HL Deb 09 July 1973 vol 344 c624WA
BARONESS WOOTTON OF ABINGER

asked Her Majesty's Government:

In how many cases the maximum penalty of ten years' imprisonment has been imposed under the Dangerous Drugs Act 1965 from the date that the Act came into force to the date of its repeal; and what drugs were involved in each case.

VISCOUNT COLVILLE OF CULROSS

Between 1965 and 1971 two persons were sentenced under the Dangerous Drugs Act 1965 to 10 years imprisonment. The first, in 1967, was for supplying heroin. The second, in 1969, was for supplying cannabis resin and possessing cannabis resin, but on appeal the sentence of 10 years imprisonment concurrent on each count was reduced to 7 years concurrent on each count. Figures for 1972 are not yet available.
