asked the Secretary of State for the Environment what is the number of compulsory purchase orders, classified by region, which have been submitted on individual houses for each of the last five years; and how many have been now approved and how many have been turned down.

This information is readily available only in respect of compulsory purchase orders made on individual houses under Part V of the Housing Act 1957 and submitted since 1st January 1970. In 80 per cent. of these cases, details of which are given below, there was no objection to acquisition, The final column in the statement includes 15 orders which were withdrawn by the local authority and 26 on which decisions have yet to be announced.
