HC Deb 09 July 1973 vol 859 cc242-3W
44. Mr. W. H. K. Baker

asked the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry if he will make a statement following the foundering of the coaster "Glen Shiel" off the Ayrshire coast on Friday 29th June with only one survivor.

Mr. Michael Heseltine

The British motor vessel "Glen Shiel", carrying a crew of five and one passenger, was reported to have foundered shortly after leaving Ayr in the early hours of 29th June. One survivor was washed ashore at Troon and one body, that of the passenger, has been recovered. I have ordered a preliminary inquiry into this casualty. I am sure that the House would wish to join me in offering sympathy to the relatives and friends of those who lost their lives in this tragic occurrence.
