HC Deb 09 July 1973 vol 859 cc243-4W
47. Mr. Leadbitter

asked the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry if he will give a general direction to the British Steel Corporation to pay all its employees the same rate for the job, regardless of their race.

Mr. Emery

No. Rates of pay inevitably vary from country to country, but the corporation assures me that it and each of its subsidiary companies throughout the world already pay all their respective employees the same rate for the same work regardless of race.

Mr. Leadbitter

asked the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry if he will make a statement on his policy towards future investment proposals for the British Steel Corporation.

Mr. Tom Boardman

The British Steel Corporation's general programme of investment will be considered in the context of the agreed strategy for development described in Cmnd. 5226.
