HC Deb 09 July 1973 vol 859 c274W
Mr. Farr

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs what defence arrangements have now been entered into with the Bahamas.

Mr. Amery

Following talks between officials of the three Governments concerned, interim arrangements have been agreed whereby the United States and United Kingdom will continue to have the use of the defence facilities in the Bahamas. In addition, satisfactory interim arrangements have been made for the status of Her Majesty's Forces in the Bahamas. The United Kingdom and the Bahamas Governments hope to agree satisfactory long-term arrangements for the use of the facilities by the end of the year.

Mr. Farr

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs to what extent Commonwealth Development Corporation projects are established in the Bahamas; and what new schemes are contemplated.

Mr. Wood

The Commonwealth Development Corporation has no projects in the Bahamas and none is at present contemplated.
