HC Deb 09 July 1973 vol 859 c268W
Mr. Thorpe

asked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food what steps he is taking to ensure that plans for agricultural buildings to be erected with grant aid, intended to house animals, are scrutinised by experts in animal husbandry and veterinary sciences.

Mr. Anthony Stodart

Plans submitted under the Farm Capital Grant Scheme are examined by my Department's surveyors in consultation as necessary with the veterinary staff in order to ensure that there is no conflict with animal welfare requirements. Our policy is to use advice and persuasion to secure any changes that are needed. To qualify for grant, proposals must enable the animal welfare codes to be observed.
