HC Deb 09 July 1973 vol 859 cc240-1W
35. Sir D. Renton

asked the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry whether he is aware that the Restrictive Trade Practices Act 1968 prevents farmers and market gardeners from deriving certain advantages from membership of growers associations; and whether he will hold consultations with a view to introducing legislation to amend that Act so as to enable growers' associations to pursue their objectives.

Sir G. Howe

I am aware of suggestions that the special exemptions from the Restrictive Trade Practices Acts in favour of agricultural and horticultural co-operatives do not go far enough. My right hon. Friend the Minister of Agriculture already has these matters under consideration.
