asked the Secretary of State for Social Services if he will take steps designed to remove the salary gap between administrative officers and nursing officers in the reorganised National Health Service.

As required by the Pay Code the salaries are based in each case on a provisional assessment of the responsibilities of the new posts compared with existing posts. I have announced that the salaries will be reviewed in 1975 in the light of actual experience. My right hon. Friend the Prime Minister is at present considering representations made to him by the Staff Sides of the Whitley Councils concerned with these salaries.
