HC Deb 04 July 1973 vol 859 cc146-7W
Dr. David Owen

asked the Minister for the Civil Service how many permanent under-secretaries, deputy undersecretaries, and assistant under-secretaries, respectively, who dealt with defence matters in their last five years in Government office since took jobs within two years of leaving the Civil Service with the 50 leading defence contractors for each of the three years for which figures are available; and if he will specify the individual contractors.

Mr. Kenneth Baker

On 22nd June I placed in the Library details of specific proposals submitted to the Civil Service Department for staff to take employment with certain firms on leaving Government employment. The figures for 1970 included one permanent secretary and for 1971 two permanent secretaries or the equivalent, and an under-secretary, who dealt with defence matters in their last five years in Government service and on leaving the service sought permission to join defence contractors. There were no such cases in 1972. The firms concerned were Decca, EMI, GEC-Marconi and Standard Telephones and Cables.
