HC Deb 04 July 1973 vol 859 cc158-9W
Mr. Carter-Jones

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services what plans his Department has for meeting the growing needs of the increasing number of people who suffer from accidents and industrial disability to gain economic independence or receive domiciliary care; and if he will make a statement.

Sir K. Joseph

The needs of those incapacitated or disabled by accidents at work are kept under review and the National Insurance and Supplementary Benefit Bill at present before Parliament provides for substantial increases in the benefits of the Industrial Injuries Act from the beginning of October. The question of compensation in respect of personal injury suffered in the course of employment is also within the terms of reference of the Royal Commission recently established under the chairmanship of Lord Pearson. Local authorities are developing domiciliary services as rapidly as their manpower and other resources permit.
