asked Her Majesty's Government:

  1. (1) Whether descriptive leaflets and route plans relating to the proposed A.12 by-pass at Chelmsford may still be consulted by members of the public at local post offices and certain other places, and if so for how much longer;
  2. 234
  3. (2) How many completed questionnaires expressing preference for one of the three proposed routes have now been received by the Department of the Environment; and
  4. (3) Whether completed questionnaires and comments posted after June 15 will be taken into consideration.

THE PARLIAMENTARY UNDER-SECRETARY OF STATE, DEPARTMENT OF THE ENVIRONMENT (BARONESS YOUNG)

  1. (1) The descriptive documents which had been available for consultation by the public for the preceding seven weeks were removed from the places of deposit on June 19.
  2. (2) Approximately 13,000 questionnaires have been received.
  3. (3) Those received up to June 22 have been accepted.
