asked the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry whether he will introduce legislation to make himself responsible for regulating the standards of the content of advertisements.

Mr. Emery

The Fair Trading Bill contains provisions for the regulation and prohibition of promotional practices which mislead consumers or exert undue pressure upon them. These provisions will reinforce the existing system of voluntary control by the Advertising Standards Authority.
