HL Deb 31 January 1973 vol 338 cc691-2WA
LORD FERRIER

asked Her Majesty's Government:

In respect of the number of students reported as having travelled from out-with Scotland to take part in the demonstration at Stirling University on October 12, 1972, whether the cost of the journeys was met out of the pockets of individual students (presumably in receipt of Government grants for study), or whether the funds, or part thereof, came from other sources; and, if the former, whether the Government are satisfied that it was an acceptable charge against monies drawn for study from the nation's treasure; and, if the latter, what organisation or organisations did assist in meeting the expense.

THE PARLIAMENTARY UNDER-SECRETARY OF STATE, DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION AND SCIENCE (LORD BELSTEAD)

My understanding is that the students taking part in the demonstration at Stirling University on October 12, 1972, were almost all from Stirling. A few may have come from outside Scotland, but I have no information on how the travelling costs of such students may have been met.
