§ Mr. Fittasked the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland whether he is satisfied that there is adequate land available for industrial development in the West Belfast area; and if, in view of the total number of unemployed, he is prepared to sponsor state industry for this area.
§ Mr. David HowellWe are making every effort to supplement the land available for new industry in West Belfast. I would refer the hon. Member to the answer which I gave on 9th November 1972 in reply to a question from the hon. Member for Belfast, North (Mr. Stratton Mills). I appreciate the serious unemployment position and am willing to examine any scheme for development in the area. I do not think that the solution lies in the assumption by the Government of the direct entrepreneurial role in industrial projects.—[Vol. 845. c226–7.]
