§ Mr. Meacherasked the Secretary of State for Social Services what is the present total annual cost of administering the family allowance system; and what this cost represents, respectively, per family and per child in receipt of these allowances.
§ Mr. DeanIt is estimated that the cost of administering the scheme in 1972–73, including Post Office encashment charges, is £10.7 million. This represents £2.50 a year per family, or £1.50 a year for each child in respect of whom an allowance is paid.
