HL Deb 23 January 1973 vol 338 c150WA
LORD BROCKWAY

asked Her Majesty's Government:

Whether they will now state their decision regarding the future of the 3,000 acres of Tyneham Valley, in Dorsetshire, retained by the Ministry of Defence for 27 years despite the promise of the Churchill Cabinet that it would be returned to civilian use after the war; and whether, in the event of the withdrawal of the military, the land will be placed under the National Trust to prevent exploitation by private speculators.

THE SECRETARY OF STATE FOR DEFENCE (LORD CARRINGTON)

The Defence Lands Committee, under the chairmanship of my right honourable and noble friend Lord Nugent of Guildford has not yet reported; no decision has been reached therefore on the future of the Royal Armoured Corps Gunnery School at Lulworth.

House adjourned at twenty minutes past ten o'clock.
