Mr. Thomas Cox

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department (1) what was the number of women convicted of soliciting in the Bedford Hill district of the London Borough of Wandsworth in each of the last five years;

(2) what was the number of women fined and the average fine imposed, the number of women who have been sent to prison, and the average sentence imposed for soliciting in the Bedford Hill district of the London Borough of Wandsworth during each of the last five years.

I am having inquiries made to determine what information is available, and I shall write to the hon. Member.

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department when he proposes to amend the Street Offences Act to enable police officers to charge men who solicit prostitutes.

Mr. Carlisle

This matter will be considered in the course of a review of the law on vagrancy and street offences which is being carried out by the Departments concerned.
