HC Deb 27 February 1973 vol 851 c331W
Mr. Michael Cocks

asked the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry if he will seek powers to require the manufacturers of meat substitute foods to state clearly the amount of protein contained in the substitute compared to an equivalent weight of meat in place of which the substitute is offered.

Mrs. Fenner

My right hon. Friend has powers under Section 7 of the Food and Drugs Act 1955 to make regulations with regard to the labelling and advertising of such products. The Food Standards Committee is at present considering the need for regulations in relation to unconventional protein products.
